Local governments are required to establish and maintain adequate internal controls for purposes of financial reporting, managing operations, and legal compliance. Learn about how to establish effective internal control as an integral part of a municipality’s governance system and ability to manage risk.

NHMA has refreshed and updated The Basics of Financial Policy publication to provide New Hampshire town and city officials with an overview of basic financial policies. In conjunction with this publication, NHMA’s Government Finance Advisor Katherine Heck has put together two introductory webinars for those municipal officials who are interested in pursuing an overview of these basic financial policies.

As the state legislature begins debating its biennium budget for fiscal years 2023 and 2024 (HB 1) and the budget "trailer bill" (HB 2), towns and cities are preparing their budgets and waiting for anticipated revenue sharing and state aid in amounts yet unknown.

Good news.  NHMA has refreshed and updated  The Basics of Financial Policy  publication to provide New Hampshire town and city governments with an overview of basic financial policies. The third edition of this publication includes several significant chapter changes, updated statutory and regulatory information, recently adopted recommended practices, and new or revised example policies.

The Budget and Finance workshop is targeted to municipal officials and employees involved in the budgeting process, including members of governing bodies and budget committees, town managers, administrators, and finance staff.
