The Town of Troy, NH (approx. pop. 2,100) seeks an experienced professional to serve as its next Town Administrator. Troy is a quaint New England town nestled at the base of beautiful Mount Monadnock in Cheshire County and is only a short drive from the City of Keene, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Working under the direction of a 3-member Board of Selectmen, the Town Administrator oversees an operating budget of $3.5 million (2026), and an array of town services delivered by 14 full-time and numerous part-time employees.
Position Overview
The Town Administrator performs complex professional and management work in providing daily administration of Town operations. The Town Administrator acts as the Chief Administrative Officer for the Board of Selectmen and carries out the orders and policies of the Board of Selectmen in accordance with all pertinent NH RSAs, Town policies/procedures, and Town ordinances.
The Town Administrator receives general supervision and policy direction from the Board of Selectmen, exercises a considerable degree of independent judgement and is evaluated by the Board of Selectmen based upon achievement of assigned goals and objectives. This position provides direct supervision to all Town Department Heads to ensure efficient operations of each department for the benefit of the Town.
Schedule: This is a full-time, salaried position, for 40+ hours per week. The Town Hall is open Monday through Thursday from 9AM-5PM. This position requires attendance at two Selectmen’s meetings per month, as well as budget committee and other boards/committees/commissions meetings, as needed. The Selectmen’s office is closed to the public on Fridays, which offers schedule flexibility and the option for remote work, if desired.
Education & Experience: Extensive knowledge of NH local government operations, NH RSA’s, finance and budgeting, and human resources. A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, finance, or a related field is preferred. Three to five years of municipal management or progressively responsible financial administration experience. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Equivalent combinations of education and experience, as well as those who may have a unique or atypical mix of education or experience that demonstrate an ability to be successful in the role are welcome to apply.
