NATURE OF WORK
The IT Engineer - Operations supports the day-to-day operation of the City's core network and systems infrastructure and takes primary ownership of the recurring operational work that keeps that infrastructure healthy. This position adds engineering depth: the daily volume of help desk escalations, hardware maintenance, and routine audits has grown to the point where it competes directly with larger infrastructure and strategic projects for engineering time. This role absorbs much of that operational load so project work can stay on schedule, and it establishes a second layer of engineering coverage for network operations and infrastructure support across City departments.
The IT Engineer works hands-on with the City's network stack, including switches, wi-fi access points, firewalls, and PRTG network monitoring, and assists with backups, remote management, the virtualized Hypervisor environment, cloud infrastructure and physical servers across the City. The incumbent supports the City's long-term strategy to migrate applications and services to cloud-based SaaS solutions, consolidate systems, and reduce the City's server and virtual machine footprint.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidate should have an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or relevant technical certifications (such as CompTIA Network+ or S+), along with two (2) years of relevant experience in a help desk, systems, or network support role. Experience supporting Windows environments, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and network hardware is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, certification, and hands-on experience will be considered.
