The Town is seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Craftsman I to perform maintenance, repair, and improvement work involving municipal buildings, grounds, parks, and other public properties. This hands-on position requires general building-maintenance knowledge, strong carpentry skills, and the ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and municipal vehicles.

Hourly rate range: starting at $25.20/hour per Collective Bargaining Agreement
What You'll Do: The following is a representative sample of the duties and responsibilities of the position and is not intended to be all-inclusive
- Working knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, Painting, and Drywall repairs. Respond promptly to maintenance request, troubleshooting problems, and completing repairs efficiently.
- Repairs and install floor tiles, ceiling tiles, partitions, walls, doors and windows.
- Build cabinets and bookcases and repair and replace locks.
- Perform plumbing tasks including repairs of lavatories and restroom equipment and clearing backups.
- Assists in small construction and remodeling projects as needed.
- Operates diverse types of equipment including electric saws, hand tools, all motorized equipment, and vehicles for which he/she is qualified in the maintenance of public properties and grounds.
- May assist with manual hand digging, setting up, and preparing cemetery properties for the performance of funeral services, and the assist with the cutting of lawns at the parks, cemeteries, public buildings, and properties.
- Inspect parks, facilities, and equipment for hazardous situations and take necessary action to correct them.
- Ability to coordinate the work of other trades.
- May be utilized in other Municipal Services Department activities (e.g., snow and ice removal operations, road repairs, etc.) for which he/she is qualified.
- Must respond to emergency situations.
Requirements:
- Graduate of high school, vocational or technical school, or have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Have basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems.
- A minimum of one (1) year in a position involving manual labor in grounds and building maintenance and repair.
- Must be in good physical condition and able to perform manual labor, sometimes under adverse conditions.
- General knowledge of common hand tools and the ability to use the same.
- Must be a positive team player who consistently exhibits a professional and courteous manner.
- Must successfully pass a Police Department civilian background check.
