Amherst Fire and EMS Department
Do you have experience in fire and life safety inspections? We are looking for an on-call fire inspector to help meet the demands of our growing department.
Job Summary: The Town of Amherst is seeking a qualified and motivated Fire Inspector to join our team on an on-call basis. This position performs fire prevention, inspection, code enforcement, and investigative duties to ensure compliance with fire and life safety codes throughout the community.
Major Duties:
- Conduct fire and life-safety inspections of residential, commercial, industrial, and public occupancies to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
- Inspect fire protection systems and equipment, including fire alarm systems, for compliance with applicable codes.
- Review permits, site plans, subdivision plans, and building plans for fire code compliance and coordinate reviews with other Town departments as necessary.
- Issue permits, certificates, approvals, and notices of violation in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and departmental policies.
- Conduct fire origin and cause investigations and prepare required reports.
- Develop and deliver fire prevention programs, fire drills, and public education activities for residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations.
- Provide fire and life-safety guidance to residents, business owners, contractors, and developers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited two-year college or university with a degree in Fire Science, Leadership, Business Management, Business Administration, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Minimum ten (10) years of fire service experience required.
- Nationally Registered EMT required; Paramedic preferred.
- •Valid CDL-B license with tank endorsement required, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
- Firefighter II Certification preferred.
- Fire Inspector II Certification preferred.
