Working Facilities and Grounds Manager

The Town of Barrington is seeking a dependable, experienced, and hands-on Facilities Manager to oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of municipal buildings, grounds, and related infrastructure. This position plays a critical role in ensuring Town facilities remain safe, clean, functional, and accessible for employees and the public.

The Facilities Manager will coordinate custodial operations, preventative maintenance programs, capital improvement projects, grounds maintenance, safety compliance, and emergency response activities while working closely with department heads, contractors, and Public Works staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance and operations of Town buildings, including Town Hall, Public Safety Building, Community Center, Library, Public Works facilities, and Transfer Station buildings.
  • Develop and manage the General Government Buildings budget in coordination with the Public Works Director.
  • Establish and implement custodial, inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair programs.
  • Supervise custodial staff and outside service contractors.
  • Utilize computerized work order, asset management, and preventative maintenance systems.
  • Coordinate maintenance, repair, renovation, and capital improvement projects.
  • Oversee maintenance of Town-owned grounds, landscaping, parking areas, walkways, athletic fields, and outdoor public spaces.
  • Coordinate seasonal operations including snow and ice removal, sanding, salting, and storm response.
  • Perform required water sampling in compliance with NHDES regulations.
  • Assist with procurement, contractor coordination, specifications, and contract administration.
  • Maintain compliance with ADA requirements and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate the Town’s Joint Loss/Safety Committee.
  • Support municipal events, including elections and emergency facility access.
  • Respond to facility emergencies involving HVAC, plumbing, electrical, generators, and related systems.
  • Perform manual labor and assist with construction and maintenance activities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in facilities or grounds maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or building systems maintenance.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience supervising staff and contractors preferred.
  • Proficiency with computers, tablets, work order systems, scheduling, and recordkeeping software.
  • Ability to manage projects, budgets, estimates, and maintenance planning.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain Level 1 CJIS certification.
  • Experience operating maintenance equipment preferred.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

This position requires moderate physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds, operating maintenance equipment, walking, bending, reaching, and performing work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. This is a non-exempt full-time benefited position; starting hourly pay range $29.23 to $30.71. Work Schedule is Monday - Friday 7am-3pm and summer hours Monday - Thursday 6am-4pm with overtime and weekends as needed.  Benefits for this position include a New Hampshire Retirement, paid holidays, paid time off, 75% dental insurance, long- and short-term disability insurance paid fully by the Town.  The Town offers medical insurance options, including a comprehensive plan paid fully by the Town.
