Job Summary
NATURE OF WORK:
The employee in this position performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor in the maintenance of public streets, parks, recreational areas and buildings.
Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of tools, including power tools and light duty motor vehicles used in the maintenance of public facilities. Work assignments are normally received from a foreman or other manager, and after instructions have been given, work is generally performed with limited additional supervision. Work is reviewed by a supervisor for conformance with instructions and for the safety and care exercised in operating tools and vehicles.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of the assigned Foreman. May receive additional direction and instruction from other employees within the assigned Division at the direction of the Foreman.

Examples of Duties

- Operates light trucks not requiring a CDL license to move personnel and equipment between work sites.
- Operates hand and power tools such as rakes, shovels, trimmers, blowers and mowers used in the maintenance of streets, facilities, and recreational areas. Performs minor maintenance such as blade sharpening, maintaining fluid levels and replacing filters. Reports need for repairs to supervisor.
- Performs roadside maintenance such as litter pickup, removal of dead animals, and brush clearing when assigned to Highway Division.
- Plows snow with light duty pickup trucks, cleans snow and ice from sidewalks with snowblowers and shovels, spreads salt as needed on walking surfaces.
- Provides custodial work such as cleaning of restrooms, sweeping and mopping of floors, and keeps facilities supplied with soap and paper products. May make minor repairs.
- Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Physically able to perform manual labor in an outdoor environment in any weather condition. Must be able to follow verbal instructions and work with limited supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 8th grade completion. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
