Legal Clerk, Reglar Part-Time

                     

Position Summary: 

Amherst Police Department is seeking a professional, organized, and detail-oriented person to provide essential administrative and clerical support to department leadership, sworn personnel, and the department’s prosecutor. This position plays a critical role in maintaining efficient office operations, supporting court-related functions, and delivering high-quality service to the public. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys meaningful public service work and wants a position that offers both responsibility and schedule flexibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to command staff, officers, and the department prosecutor
  • Assist with paralegal and case preparation support, including organizing case files, compiling reports, discovery materials, and related documentation
  • Coordinate court schedules, track case status updates, and maintain prosecution calendars
  • Prepare legal correspondence and court-related documents as directed
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure proper filing of citations, reports, and court paperwork
  • Answer phones and respond to public inquiries in person and electronically
  • Prepare departmental reports and general correspondence
  • Maintain records, files, and confidential information in accordance with department policy
  • Process invoices, purchase orders, and assist with budget tracking
  • Coordinate meetings, schedules, and department events
  • Assist with records management, body worn camera program, and data entry
  • Support accreditation, compliance, and reporting requirements as needed

 Knowledge and Skills Desired:

  • Strong organizational, clerical, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and court proceedings, or ability to learn.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred
  • 2+ years of administrative experience; legal, paralegal, or court experience strongly preferred
