POSITION: TOWN CLERK – TEMPORARY FT APPOINTMENT
TOWN CLERK’S OFFICE – Town of Bedford
APPOINTED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL
Available Immediately, appointment until March 2027
WAGE: $30.718/hr. (Plus health, dental, life, STD, LTD, FSA and NH Retirement)
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Elections: Act as the chief election officer for municipal, State, and National elections, assists with voter registration, site setup, and following state/federal regulations. Works with the Town Moderator in planning elections. Maintains poll pads and processes absentee ballots in accordance with the laws. Maintains records. Reports results to the Secretary of State.
- Vital Records: Record and provide certified copies of birth, marriage, and death records and record with the State.
- Licensing: Issue dog licenses and marriage licenses, and other municipal permits.
- Recording: Maintain Town records and certify minutes of Town Meetings. Manages the production of the Annual Town Report.
- Cemetery Trustees: Assists the Cemetery Trustees including the sale of plots and maintenance of records.
- Supervision: Supervises one per-diem Deputy Town Clerk.
- Budget: Manages the Town Clerk budget.
- Parking Permits: Manages lottery and issuance of high school student parking passes
- Right to Know Law: Facilitates responses to requests in accordance with RSA 91-A.
- Website: Maintains Town Clerk website
SPECIFICATIONS:
The State of NH provides workshops and training to keep clerks updated on statutory requirements to comply with the varied statutes such as elections, vital statistics, budget laws, dog licensing and RSA 91-A requests. Works with the Town Council, Town Moderator, Supervisors of the Checklist, and Town Manager in performing the duties of the Town.
Must be flexible to work evenings and extended days.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be a U. S. Citizen
- Must be a Town Resident
- Must be a Registered Voter
- Notary or Justice of the Peace preferred or willing to obtain.
