The Town of Barnstead is seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional to serve as its next Fire Chief.
This is an opportunity to lead a dedicated department that provides fire protection, emergency medical services, rescue operations, and emergency response to a growing New Hampshire community.
Barnstead is looking for a hands-on leader who values training, operational readiness, and strong relationships with personnel, municipal leadership, and mutual aid partners.
The Barnstead Fire Rescue Department provides emergency services to a rural community with a strong tradition of public safety and regional cooperation. The department responds to fire, EMS, rescue, and other emergency incidents and works closely with neighboring agencies through mutual aid.
The Fire Chief leads all department operations including personnel management, training, budgeting, and long-term planning while ensuring the department remains prepared to meet the community’s evolving emergency service needs.
The Fire Chief is appointed by the Select Board and serves as the senior administrative and operational leader of the Fire Department.
The Chief oversees all aspects of department operations including:
• Fire suppression and rescue operations • Emergency medical services delivery • Department training and professional development • Budget development and capital planning • Policy development and departmental leadership • Coordination with mutual aid partners and regional agencies
The position works closely with the Select Board, Town Administrator, and other public safety partners to ensure effective and professional service delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
• Demonstrated leadership experience in a fire department with fire and EMS operations • Experience in command roles and emergency incident management • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills • Knowledge of modern fire service operations, training, and safety standards • Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience as a Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, or Chief Officer • Experience leading a combination or call fire department • Experience working with municipal leadership and elected officials • Experience with budgeting, grants, and capital planning
