The City of Portsmouth is seeking a dependable and hardworking Sanitation Laborer. This essential role is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and healthy community spaces by collecting refuse, garbage, and other debris from curbsides and roadsides in all weather conditions.
Pay rate: $23.42- $25.83 an hour per the 1386A Salary Schedule
Hours: Full time, 40 hours a week
Schedule: Monday-Friday: 7:30am-3:30pm but can vary by day

NATURE OF WORK
The purpose of this position is to pick up and otherwise clear refuse, garbage, vegetation and other debris in all weather conditions from curbs and roadsides and leave collection areas generally clean. Other seasonal clearing and cleaning operations are also performed. The work involves constant safety awareness, the ability to recognize and take appropriate actions regarding hazardous materials and to use hand tools.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants for this position must have graduated from high school or earned a graduate equivalent diploma (GED), a working knowledge of how to care for, operate and use refuse collection equipment and associated hand tools and have not less than six months successful work experience.
Candidate must obtain a CDL class B license within a year of hire.
