Contract Engineering Technician
Contract Position; Up to 40 hours/week; for up to 6-months

Join our Public Works team as a Contract Engineering Technician and help shape the infrastructure that keeps our community running. This is a hands-on, dynamic role where you’ll be in the field, in the office, and be a part of projects that make a visible impact.
What You’ll Do
As an Engineering Technician, you’ll support a wide range of public works projects, from the permitting preconstruction stage, project surveys, data collection and project planning to construction inspection, final inspection and records documentation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist the public with permit applications, and permit related inquiries
- Review, process and issue permits under the supervision of the City Engineer, including street access, excavations, encumbrance and utility connection permits
- Coordinate and provide oversight inspection of contractors for the installation of water, sewer, drain, sidewalk, road repair and other related City and private infrastructure work to confirm conformance with Public Works standards, State and local laws and requirements.
- Maintain and organize engineering records for completed work, including but not necessarily limited to record drawings, tie card updates, maps, plans, reports, GIS and Public Works recording software updates, as required.
- Assist with field surveys of properties, boundaries, and construction sites.
- Support the design and planning of City infrastructure projects.
- Review plans, blueprints, and site layouts for accuracy and adherence to regulations.
- Assist with subdivision and site plan reviews, including field verification.
- Update and manage GIS data, utility maps, and asset databases.
- Support asset management systems.
- Provide research, drafting, and technical support for engineering staff.
- Help maintain software, hardware, and technical tools used by Public Works.
Minimum Qualifications:
• A valid driver’s license.
- An associate’s degree in engineering, surveying, construction management or similar fields and/or a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
- GIS asset management and data entry experience.
Pay and Benefits include
- This contract position is considered full-time temporary employment and offers a compensation rate between $26- $33 per hour depending on the applicant’s experience and qualifications. The position will work up to 40 hours per week for up to 6 months, with the possibility of renewal. Some benefits are offered.
