Motor Equipment Operator/Water & Sewer

The City of Keene’s Water & Sewer Division is seeking a dedicated Motor Equipment Operator to help maintain and improve the infrastructure that delivers clean water and protects public health. This is an opportunity to build a meaningful career while serving your community.

What You’ll Do:

As a Motor Equipment Operator, you’ll assist with the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City’s water distribution and sewer collection systems. No two days are the same — you’ll be part of both planned and emergency response work that keeps essential services flowing.
 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with maintenance and repair of water and sewer mains
  • Locating and diagnosing sewer stoppages, water main leaks, and service breaks
  • Maintaining fire hydrants and water valves
  • Performing new taps on City water mains
  • Participating in bi-annual nighttime unidirectional flushing
  • Operating heavy equipment and power tools safely and effectively
  • Assisting with road paving, drainage installation, and traffic control
  • Plowing snow, sanding and salting roads
  • Landscaping duties such as mowing, pruning, and leaf raking
  • Performing preventative maintenance and minor repairs on tools and equipment
  • Completing daily truck inspection sheets and utilizing Asset Management Software

Note: This position is subject to recall and stand-by duty during non-regular working hours, weekends, and holidays.  This position should be able to respond within 60 minutes, depending on weather conditions, to staff the work site.  In addition, this position is subject to federal commercial drive license (CDL) drug and alcohol requirements.

 

Minimum qualifications: 
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months’ related experience and/or training.  A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tank and air brakes endorsement is required.  Grade I NH Water Treatment Operators License, Grade II NH Water Distribution Certificate and Grade I Wastewater Collection Certificate are all desired.

Pay and Benefits: 
During the 6-month probationary period, the pay rate for this position is $20.66 per hour.  Upon successful completion of the probationary period, this position will move to the regular pay schedule which consists of pay steps and hourly rates ranging from $21.48- $26.13 per hour, depending on experience.
