The Town of Newport is seeking a Planning and Zoning Administrator to lead a high-volume, fast-paced land use office in a community that has experienced significant development in recent years. This position plays a key role in guiding growth while ensuring consistent, fair, and customer-focused administration of the Town’s land use regulations and applicable state requirements.
The Planning and Zoning Administrator serves as the primary staff resource to the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, Heritage Commission, and Conservation Commission, including preparing and posting meeting agendas, assembling meeting packets, preparing staff reports and recommendations, and coordinating application review processes and communications. The position oversees day-to-day development review and permitting functions, including building permits (in coordination with the Building Inspector) and RSA 79-E historic preservation applications, and provides clear guidance to residents, applicants, contractors, developers, and design professionals. Responsibilities also include maintaining accurate public records, coordinating with other Town departments and outside agencies, supporting ordinance/regulatory updates as needed, and helping the Town manage complex projects and deadlines in a collaborative environment.
This role reports to the Town Manager and supervises the Building Inspector and administrative support staff. Salary range: $65,000–$85,000, commensurate with qualifications, with a competitive benefits package.
