POSITION: Motor Equipment Operator (MEO) - Highway Department
SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
HOURLY RATE: $24.53 to $25.55 per hour
DUTIES:
MEOs are responsible for a variety of public works construction and maintenance activities, with special responsibility for operation of public works equipment, including vehicles over 26,000 GVW and trucks equipped with snowplows, and other equipment in snow and ice control activities. MEOs maintain streets and drainage systems, perform masonry, stonework, building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and painting work. MEOs maintain department equipment and perform other minor maintenance and repair work to keep equipment in safe operating condition, while ensuring proper safety precautions are taken in the use of equipment and performance of assignments. MEOs are expected to be On-Call and respond to emergencies after normal working hours.
REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates for this position must have:
- A valid Driver’s License and CDL-B within 6 months of hire.
- One to two years’ experience in motor equipment operation.
- Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of trucks, tractors, snowplows, and similar equipment, as well as hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- The ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests.
