The City of Portsmouth is seeking a qualified and motivated Assistant Chief Plant Operator to support operations at the Peirce Island Wastewater Facility. This is a full-time leadership role focused on maintaining critical infrastructure and ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
This is a full-time position, 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday 7:30am-3:30pm.
Starting salary range is $78,701.74- $95,662.46 a year per the Supervisory Management Alliance (SMA) Working Agreement.

NATURE OF WORK
Position performs responsible technical process control and supervisory work in the daily maintenance of the City’s water and/or wastewater infrastructure. Provides for the proper functioning of the facilities. Acts as Chief Plant Operator in the absence of Chief.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A candidate for this position must have graduated from high school, or equivalent (GED). An Associate's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field is preferred. Five (5) years of experience in the operations and maintenance of a water and/or wastewater treatment facility or related field. Three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity. Qualifying education experience may count for some of this experience.
Hold a current New Hampshire Water or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Grade III license (or the equivalent from another state). Obtaining additional certification or licensing may be required.
An incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license and have no offenses which would prohibit or restrict insurability by any insurance carrier providing coverage to the City.
