Deputy Treasurer – Town of Brentwood
The Town of Brentwood is seeking a Deputy Treasurer to support the financial operations of the community and to serve as backup to the Town Treasurer when needed. The Deputy Treasurer is appointed by the Selectboard.
About the Position
The Deputy Treasurer assists with receiving, depositing, and tracking town funds, and helps ensure that financial records are accurate and up to date. The Deputy must be prepared to step in and perform all Treasurer duties during absences or busy periods, including signing checks, preparing reports, and working with the Town’s bank.
This position plays an important role in maintaining the Town’s financial integrity and supporting the day-to-day flow of payroll, accounts payable, deposits, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the deposit and tracking of town revenues.
- Help maintain accurate financial records and reports.
- Support weekly, monthly, and annual financial tasks as needed.
- Step in to sign checks and prepare financial summaries when the Treasurer is unavailable.
- Work with the Town’s bank to process transactions and ensure funds are properly safeguarded.
- Assist in reconciling accounts and preparing documentation for auditors.
Qualifications
- Basic understanding of accounting or municipal finance preferred.
- Comfort working with spreadsheets and online banking systems.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently.
- Must be bondable and hold a valid driver’s license.
