Engineering Inspector

JOB SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Engineering Inspector is responsible for observing and documenting all aspects of infrastructure improvements within the City Right-of-Way as assigned. Key duties include ensuring compliance with City standard specifications, conducting inspections, testing, coordinating daily construction activities, monitoring traffic control, and tracking quantities. The Engineering Inspector maintains electronic records in the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS) and permitting systems, including detailed daily field reports. Performs other related duties as assigned. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, is part of the UAW Clerical and Technical Collective Bargaining Unit, and provides an excellent work life balance. The position is grade 12, with an hourly rate dependent upon experience.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree (2 years) in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Surveying or GIS
  • One (1) to three (3) years related work experience is desired. Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered for candidates not meeting the specified qualifications.
  • Training in CADD system, confined space entry, hazmat and asbestos
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Kronos, OpenGov Cartegraph Asset Management, GIS Applications
  • Ability to compose original correspondence, follow technical manuals, and communicate professionally with people
  • Ability to conduct arithmetic, algebraic and geometric calculations
  • Ability to utilize logical or scientific thinking to solve problems
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
