In this role, you’ll take on everything from routine maintenance to complex repairs, lead small facility projects, assist contractors, and even support energy management initiatives. What You’ll Do:
As a Building Mechanic, you’ll be the go-to expert for keeping our buildings in top shape. Your responsibilities will include:
Facility Maintenance & Operations
- Perform preventive maintenance on City buildings, including HVAC, security systems, boilers, and energy management systems.
- Inspect and troubleshoot heating and cooling equipment, replace filters, clean components, change belts, and lubricate bearings.
- Maintain building safety systems such as suppression, access, and egress.
Project & Contractor Support
- Serve as lead on minor repair and renovation projects.
- Monitor contractor performance and report to the Maintenance Manager – Facilities.
- Prepare cost estimates and assist departments with project design and layout.
Carpentry, Electrical, and Plumbing Work
- Perform rough and finish carpentry—building partitions, cabinetry, walls, ceilings, furniture repairs, and more.
- Ensure electrical repairs are completed safely and correctly, including switches, outlets, ballasts, motors, and pumps.
- Handle plumbing repairs and coordinate with licensed plumbers for larger installations.
Painting, Flooring, and General Upkeep
- Prep and paint interior and exterior surfaces.
- Apply caulking, install wall coverings, and coordinate flooring repair or replacement.
- Maintain grounds, repair minor building issues, and assist contractors when needed.
Janitorial & Facility Support
- Clean and maintain restrooms, lobbies, offices, and common areas.
- Restock supplies, remove trash and recycling, wash windows, and vacuum or clean carpets.
- Set up rooms and equipment for meetings and events.
- Remove snow and ice from walkways to ensure safe access.
Inventory & Supply Management
- Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies.
- Order and pick up materials as needed.
Pay and Benefits:
This full-time position offers a competitive pay range of $23.23- $28.16 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED plus three years of experience in the maintenance and repair of building and mechanical systems, including some of the more complex building maintenance repair tasks. Prefer skills training in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building trade areas. Must demonstrate experience with budgets and managing contracts. A valid driver’s license is required.
