POSITION: Truck Driver/Equipment Operator DEPARTMENT: Public Works
FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt REPORTS TO: Highway Supervisor
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Highway Supervisor, performs various highway maintenance tasks including road repairs, snowplowing and removal, salting and sanding. Performs daily routine service and maintenance of equipment and work areas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs road maintenance to include asphalt pavement patching and spreading and compacting gravel.
- Performs snowplowing, removal, salting and sanding.
- Sets up equipment for specific road work; general maintenance and operation of grading.
- Performs various labor tasks to include lifting of heavy materials, shoveling and sweeping.
- Performs various labor tasks as assigned (cemeteries, beaches, parks and playground).
- Performs routine maintenance service and repair of department vehicles and equipment.
- Performs drainage maintenance; installs, maintains and repairs catch basins and associated piping.
- Replaces and maintains culverts.
- Repairs and maintains sidewalks.
- Replaces damaged posts, worn or weathered signs and the like.
- Flagging and traffic control at worksites.
- Assists at transfer station when needed.
- Assists water/wastewater department when needed.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other related duties as requested.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
High School diploma/GED and valid NH CDL at a level required to operate and transport all equipment used is required. CDL-B License. Three years relevant experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of operating an excavator, bulldozer, grader, backhoe, loader, dump truck, snow plow with wings and various highway department equipment.
- Knowledge of survey equipment and ability to determine slops and pavement grades.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance techniques and mechanical skills for repairs of light and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge and skill for snowplowing, salting, sanding and operating equipment under various severe weather conditions.
- Ability to work with others with minimum supervision.
- Must be a responsible, reliable worker.
- Must have the ability to obtain all required licenses.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION
NH CDL-B License or ability to obtain is required. Higher CDL may be required. Flagger/Traffic Control certification.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Individual operates various highway department equipment including excavator, bulldozer, grader, snowplow, loader, back hoe, dump trucks, and any other equipment assigned to the department. Hand and power tools are used in the maintenance and repair of equipment. Paint and other specialized equipment and materials are used in the position.
