Transfer Station Attendant

FLSA Status: Hourly

Reports To: Transfer Station Supervisor

Pay: DOE

General Summary

The Transfer Station Attendant performs the routine daily operational duties of the transfer station and recycling facility in conformance with the Farmington Resource Recovery Park Waste Management Facility Ordinance. The Facility Attendant ensures the orderly, safe, and efficient use of the town's transfer station and recycling facility by residents and/or taxpayers.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinates and assists users in the proper separation and placement of materials in appropriate receptacles and/or areas.
  • Ensures users of the facility have proper permits and have paid appropriate fees when required for disposal of solid waste.
  • Operates facility equipment, as required, in daily waste management activities.
  • Cleans, services, and maintains transfer station, recycling center, and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe manner at all times, as directed.
  • Prepares receipts as necessary

Desired Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalent. SWOT (Solid Waste Operator) Certification and previous experience in transfer station operations and money handling are preferred.

Licensing and Certification

  • Ability to possess and maintain a State of New Hampshire Solid Waste Operators Certificate or obtain one within 6 months
  • Ability to possess and maintain a New Hampshire Department of Agriculture Weighmaster License or obtain one within 6 months
  • Current Driver’s License

Tools and Equipment Used

Loader, skid steer, forklift, balers, compactors, hand tools, scales, cash register, and other maintenance tools and equipment.

The noise level in the work environment is loud. The employee may be exposed to mental stress due to public service.
