Town Assessor
Applications are being accepted for the full-time position of Town Assessor in the Assessing Department located at 35 Main Street, Hooksett. The Town is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, certified Property Assessor to lead our Assessing Department. This department head position reports to the Town Administrator and is responsible for ensuring accurate and equitable property assessments, supervising staff, and maintaining compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. As a key position within Town administration, the Assessor oversees all appraisal and assessing functions relating to exemptions, annual pickups, timber and excavation operations, and current use programs. In addition, this position is responsible for administration of the assessing budget, state reporting, and responding to public inquiries to ensure transparency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible municipal property assessment experience, including 2 years in a supervisory role (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Certified NH Assessor (C.N.H.A.) designation required, or attainable within 1 year.
- Certified NH Property Assessor Supervisor (CPAS) through the NH Assessing Certification Board required.
- Strong knowledge of property assessment laws, regulations, and valuation principles.
- Proficiency in mathematics, written/oral communication, and computer technology.
- Experience with municipal software; Vision CAMA experience is a plus.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Any equivalent combination of skills, experience and education which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must pass all pre-employment background checks. Salary range is $75,712 – 106,018. Full benefits package. 6-month probation period. This is a salaried exempt position; normal works hours 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday, Tuesday & Thursday, 8:00am to 6:30pm Wednesday, and 8:00am to 12:00pm Friday; additional hours for meetings and other assignments when needed.
