Every SB2 town and school district must have a default budget prepared each year before the annual meeting in case the proposed operating budget fails. This requirement has been in place for 30 years, and the law regarding what it is, who prepares it, and what goes into it has been updated several times over those years to provide local officials with additional guidance. However, there is still a fair amount of confusion about this subject and there are always new officials who have never worked with it before. In addition, this year for the first time, the task will fall to the official budget committee in every SB2 town and school district that has an official budget committee. Join Legal Services Counsels Jonathan Cowal and Christine Johnston for this Lunch and Learn Webinar to get information on the law regarding default budgets and everything that has changed in recent years.
