The City of Portsmouth is seeking a highly qualified Wastewater Operations Manager to oversee the performance, efficiency, and compliance of the City's wastewater treatment facilities. This is a leadership role ideal for someone with strong technical expertise and supervisory experience in municipal wastewater operations.
This is a full-time position, 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday 7:30am-3:30pm.
Starting salary range is $99,848.45- $121,366.41 a year per the Professional Management Association (PMA) Working Agreement.

NATURE OF WORK
Position performs responsible technical and supervisory work in the daily operations of the City’s wastewater treatment facilities. Incumbent oversees wastewater treatment system performance, efficiency, and permit compliance. Supervises operations staff related to treatment and maintenance. Maintains records, tracks data and analysis and determines proper actions necessary to maintain a high level of treatment quality and efficiency.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have a high school diploma or a graduate equivalent diploma (GED). While a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, and Bacteriology is preferred, it is not required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience that demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities are encouraged to apply.
The incumbent must have a minimum of seven (7) years of work experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility and managerial responsibilities.
The incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license and have no offenses which would prohibit or restrict insurability by any insurance carrier providing coverage to the City.
Candidate should have a current New Hampshire Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Grade IV license or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire. Obtaining additional certification or licensing may be required.
