The City of Portsmouth is seeking motivated and skilled Utility Mechanic- Signs and Lines to help maintain and improve the safety of our streets, sidewalks, and public infrastructure. This position plays an important role in maintaining roadway markings, fabricating and installing traffic signs, and supporting a variety of public works operations through the year.
Starting pay rate: $24.58 - $27.10 an hour per the 1386A Salary Schedule and based on experience.
Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday-Friday: 7:30am-3:30pm

NATURE OF WORK
The purpose of this position is to fulfill the operational work objectives of maintaining the City’s street markings and signage. This work includes maintaining, inspecting, and painting street markings, fabricating signs; and other general trades and performing skilled and semi-skilled work as required. Experience with Flexi software is preferred. Incumbent is expected to understand project or task objectives, identify and execute the appropriate tasks, use tools correctly and to successfully complete assigned work with minimal instruction. Work is performed individually, as part of a team, may involve the supervision of others and requires the use of good judgment. Ability to take a leadership role in the absence of supervision. Supervision is varied.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will hold a high school diploma or have earned a graduate equivalent diploma (GED) and have a working knowledge of one (1) or more trades.
Must possess a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), class B or possess the ability to obtain within one year from date of hire and have no offenses which would prohibit or restrict insurability by any insurance carrier providing coverage to the City. Obtaining additional certifications or licensing may be required.
