Join Our Public Works Team
The Town of Northfield is seeking a dependable and motivated individual to join our Public Works Department as a Truck Driver / Light Equipment Operator / Buildings & Grounds employee. This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties involving the operation of trucks and heavy equipment, road and drainage maintenance, snow and ice control, and maintenance of Town buildings, parks, cemeteries, and recreational facilities.
The successful candidate will work both independently and as part of a team to help maintain the Town's infrastructure and public facilities while providing excellent service to residents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate trucks, loaders, tractors, mowers, and other Public Works equipment.
- Perform road maintenance, drainage and culvert work, street sweeping, sign installation, and seasonal cleanup.
- Operate snowplows, including wing plows, and participate in winter maintenance activities such as sanding and salting.
- Maintain Town buildings and grounds through painting, light carpentry, landscaping, and general repairs.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on vehicles and equipment.
- Perform manual labor including loading and unloading materials, digging, mowing, raking, and related Public Works activities.
- Respond to emergencies and participate in on-call operations as required.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with fellow employees and interact professionally with the public.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of relevant equipment, or any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Valid CDL Class B Driver's License and current medical card required.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform routine manual labor and prolonged heavy physical work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely operate trucks, heavy equipment, and snowplows with wing attachments.
- Ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and repairs.
