Title: Allenstown Library Director

Working Schedule: 20-25 hours a week. Must meet with Library Trustees in the evening once a month. School snow days are library snow days. Current schedule of one 8-hour day, Monday 11am-7pm. Two 7-hour days 10am-5pm, Tuesday & Thursday. One 3-hour weekend day, Saturday 10am-1pm. This is an on-site working position requiring in-person attendance.

Salary and Benefits: Approximately $25,000-$30,000/year for 20-25 hours/ 4 days a week, depending on qualifications. There are 9 paid holidays, personal time, sick time, and vacation time earned annually.  Paid snow days. Optional participation in a self-funded 457 (b) retirement plan. *No health or dental benefits. 

Reports To: Elected 3-member Board of Library Trustees

General Purpose: Facilitate the general day to day activities and programming of the library in accordance with the directives of the Library Trustees while assisting Allenstown residents with all library services.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities: Maintain regular hours of operation that are convenient to the residents of Allenstown. Order books and supplies for library. Organize library bills and pay them in a timely manner. Monitor library budget and accounts. Track, prepare and present key library operation information to Library Trustees on a monthly basis at regularly scheduled Library Trustee meetings. Advise Library Trustees with regard to their management decisions. Perform various tasks and duties as assigned by Library Trustees. Create and facilitate library programs and activities for patrons. Maintain library website and social media accounts. Post Library Trustee meeting agendas and minutes monthly. Seek out and apply for additional library funding via grants and awards. Train and supervise Library Assistant position(s). Maintain interior library facilities in a clean and organized manner for resident use.

Education and Training: Bachelor’s degree and two years management experience preferred. Any combination of relevant degrees and/or time spent working in a relevant field will be considered. Proficiency with our Integrated Library System (ILS), Atriuum is a plus. Familiarity with the State of NH Interlibrary Loan Program is also preferred.

Knowledge and Experience: Previous library or administrative experience preferred. Knowledge of budgeting, grant writing, and project and program planning and implementation. Strong computer and technology skills with ability to learn new software and databases. Supervisory and management experience.

Excellent time management and organizational skills.  Ability to lead others, plan projects and see things through to completion.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Mostly indoors at a desk with limited travel and occasional time spent outdoors for activities. Light maintenance of library exterior environment when needed. Light lifting, stretching, and bending when engaged in library maintenance and activities such as organizing library shelves, cleaning, assisting the public, etc.

 

 Allenstown, NH has a population of approximately 4,900. There are 1,000 library cardholders and an estimated book collection of 8,000 volumes. The library is a small 2000 sq/ft building with rich historical architecture and charm built in 1934. It has a finished basement with two small book storage areas and an open concept main floor divided into a children’s section and an adult section. The 2025 library tax funded operating budget was $74,280. Current programming consists of a summer reading program & monthly spice and craft kits. Current library staff positions are one part-time director and one part-time assistant.
