About the Opportunity

The Town of Londonderry, NH, is seeking a Systems Administrator. This position reports directly to the Cyber Services Director. The Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining, managing, and supporting the Town's information technology hardware, software, and infrastructure. The position involves performing technical duties to ensure the effective and efficient operation of all municipal information systems, including servers, networks, and end-user workstations for both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic planning. This role will work with the Cyber Services Director and the Town Manager to ensure the Town’s IT environment evolves to meet both employee and resident needs and stays up to date with the needs of the municipality in the ever-developing world of technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installs, configures, maintains, and repairs computer hardware and software for all municipal workstations, servers, networks, and cloud services, including coordinating with vendors for necessary repairs.
  • Monitors system performance, capacity, and availability; proactively address issues to prevent outages.
  • Provides advanced technical helpdesk support, troubleshooting and resolving issues related to hardware, software, phone systems, and network connectivity (LAN/WAN).
  • Performs root cause analysis and recommends corrective and preventive actions.
  • Follows change management and release processes for system modifications.
  • Manages and maintains the Town’s cloud-based services and infrastructure, including configuration, security, performance optimization, and integration with on-premises systems, and oversees IT asset management to ensure accurate inventory, lifecycle tracking, and compliance.
  • Deploys and maintains virtual machines and cloud environments.
  • Manages and maintains user accounts and security best practices.
  • Performs regular updates and patches, and conducts vulnerability assessments on all municipal enterprise/software to protect against cyber threats
  • Manages backup and recovery procedures and assists with business continuity planning to ensure data integrity.
  • Creates and maintains system documentation.
  • Provides technology orientation for new personnel and technology training for staff as needed.
  • Responds to computer-related emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
  • Assists in evaluating, planning, and implementing new technologies that enhance municipal operations and resident services, and recommends any upgrades or replacements for outdated systems, ensuring secure adoption of new solutions.
  • Contributes to long-term technology strategies that balance innovation, usability, and security and serve as a trusted advisor to leadership regarding emerging technology and cybersecurity risks.
  • Participate in process documentation, audits, vulnerability assessments, and compliance activities as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with networked servers, desktop computers, and helpdesk support, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures involved in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer systems.
  • Proficiency in Windows and Linux server and desktop operating systems, virtualization technology (e.g., VMWare), and network protocols.
  • Experience in Microsoft 365 services including Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and security/compliance features.
  • Scripting and automation experience (e.g., PowerShell or similar).
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage change, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Work Environment

Assigned to a forty (40) hour workweek with additional hours as required. This is a non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime compensation under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The majority of work is performed indoors in an office environment.

Occupational Exposures

May be exposed to cleaning fluids, photocopier/printer toner and ink, eraser fluids, printer cartridges, dirt, dust, fumes and hazardous materials that can affect respiratory system, eyes or skin, etc.

Selection Process/Appointment: 

May be required to participate in oral interview, background investigation and criminal history check. Town Manager appoints based on the recommendation of the Cyber Services Director.
