Support Services Clerk: Part-time, 20 hours a week

ABOUT THE ROLE: The Salem Police Department is seeking a detail-oriented and organized part-time Support Services Clerk to provide administrative support to the Support Services Division, with a primary focus on payroll, attendance records, scheduling, and data management. The ideal candidate will have strong computer, organizational, and communication skills and the ability to handle confidential information with accuracy and professionalism.
Accountability: Reports directly to the Support Services Supervisor and Administrative Lieutenant and are accountable to the Operations Support Bureau Commander (Captain) and the Chief of Police.

The following is a representative sample of the duties and responsibilities of the position and is not intended to be all-inclusive:
- Prepares payroll and other related activities to include maintenance of attendance records and daily rosters for Patrol, Investigations, Special Services, Communications, Support Services, Prosecution, Crossing Guards, and outside details.
- Reviews the outside detail schedules, court reporting times, training rosters, department overtime and ensures accurate documentation of dates, times, location, and hours worked.
- Accurately inputs, updates and retrieves data from record-keeping systems while maintaining confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
- Prepares excel spreadsheets with corresponding payrates for outside details and forwards them to the Payroll Coordinator and Accounting Clerk in finance.
- Prepares reports for accounts receivable and general ledger accounts and completes the payroll batch prior to submission to the Payroll Coordinator.
- Performs other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by the Support Services Supervisor and/or the Administrative Lieutenant.

- Graduate of high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience. AA degree or course work in a business-related field preferred.
- A strong proficiency in the use and application of computer-based information, word processing, file and records management and related office management applications.
- Demonstrated organizational and oral/written communication skills. Experience in a customer-oriented or municipal setting preferred.
- Employee required to attend specialized training programs particular to the position.
- Must be a positive team player who consistently exhibits a professional and courteous manner.
