Senior Utility Operator- Water

The City of Keene’s Public Works Department is looking for a full-time Senior Utility Operator to work at the City’s Water Treatment Facility!  This position is responsible for planning, scheduling and directing daily work schedules, and supervising all aspects of water treatment and associated facilities. 

In addition to planning, scheduling, and supervising the Water Treatment Facility, other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Monitors and operates the Water Treatment Facility, corrosion control sites, wells, and associated equipment.  This includes inspection of on-line instrumentation, equipment performance, and physical sites. 

• Routinely uses the City’s SCADA system for operating, monitoring, and alarm response for all facilities.  Also uses Hach WIMS database software, excel spreadsheets, word documents and work order and asset management system.

• Conducts field sampling and performs basic laboratory tests for pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, color, residual chlorine, total organic carbon, and other parameters as required.

• Monitors chemical and material inventories.  Orders chemicals and supplies for operation of both treatment plants.  Maintains records related to purchases.  Codes, files, and processes invoices.  Investigates discrepancies between records, invoices, and inventory as necessary.

• Performs routine preventative maintenance of equipment and systems which includes lubrication, routine inspections, and oil changes.

 Note: This position is required to perform standby duty and respond to recall as part of the on-call rotation which includes non-regular work hours, weekends, and holidays.  In addition, if holding a CDL, this position is subject to federal commercial driver license (CDL) drug and alcohol requirements.  Must be able to respond within 60 minutes to the worksite. 

Minimum qualifications:
Associate or technical degree in a relevant field and 3-5 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Prior supervisory experience is preferred.  Valid CDL with tank endorsement is desired.  Grade III NH Water Treatment License is required within 12 months of employment and Grade II NH Water Distribution Certification within 24 months.  This position will also be the backup Operator or Record at the Water Treatment Facility.

Pay and Benefits:
During the 6-month probationary period, the pay range for this position is $25.00- $27.31 per hour.  Upon successful completion of the probationary period, this position will move to the regular pay schedule which consists of pay steps and hourly rates ranging from $27.61- $32.93 per hour, depending on experience.
