Town of Sunapee – School Crossing Guard
The Sunapee Police Department is seeking reliable and community-minded individuals to serve as School Crossing Guards during the school year (fall–spring). This position may be filled by a full-time or part-time police officer on assignment, or by a part-time civilian employee. Crossing Guards play an important role in keeping children safe as they travel to and from school, ensuring safe street crossings, and helping maintain the orderly flow of traffic around school zones.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely guide children across streets at assigned school crossings.
- Direct traffic and monitor safety conditions to prevent accidents.
- Remain alert for potential hazards and report concerns to the department.
- Provide courteous, professional interaction with students, families, and motorists.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Strong communication skills and sound judgment.
- Previous law enforcement or traffic safety experience is a plus but not required.
Position Details:
- Part-time, seasonal position (school year only).
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Requires standing for extended periods and attentiveness to traffic and pedestrian movement.
