The City of Lebanon Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Prosecuting Attorney. The current 2026 weekly salary range is $1,735.99 to $2,343.55 (annual salary range $90,271–$121,864), plus up to a $30,000 sign-on bonus. The City is also evaluating market competitiveness and compensation structure for this position, which may result in future salary adjustments. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Prosecutes LPD cases in the 2nd Circuit Court, Lebanon Division, or other courts should a change of venue or similar situation arise, such as, misdemeanors, violations and juvenile matters.
- Appears in 2nd Circuit Court, Lebanon Division or other court or tribunals as required for LPD proceedings including but not limited to trials, plea and sentence hearings, motion hearings, arraignments, bail review or revocation hearings, and juvenile and delinquency proceedings.
- Appears before the New Hampshire Department of Motor Vehicles for Administrative License Suspension hearings representing the LPD.
- Appears before the Grand Jury, if necessary, for presentation of any LPD cases.
- Reviews all investigation materials in each criminal case to ensure that all witnesses have been interviewed, all evidence and documents have been collected and documented, and all necessary certified motor vehicle and criminal records have been obtained.
- Ensures that all necessary witnesses are properly notified and available to appear at all scheduled court proceedings and that all the necessary evidence is available for the hearing.
- Ensures criminal complaints are properly drafted and reviewed prior to filing with the Court.
- Responds to requests for discovery made by defense counsel.
- Prepares search warrants and extradition papers as required.
- Researches, prepares, drafts, files and argues pretrial motions, objections, and memorandums of law.
- Manages plea negotiations to conclusion.
- Notifies all interested parties of final dispositions.
- Provides all other necessary support to assist members of the LPD in the preparation and prosecution of all criminal matters.
- Provides on-call assistance for legal advice in all criminal investigations, potentially during off-work and weekend hours.
- Provides legal consultation, advice and direction to the Police Chief and Deputy Police Chief.
- Maintains New Hampshire law license in good standing; satisfies all continuing education requirements.
- Maintains current knowledge of the applicable areas of law.
- Manages subordinates, including assigning and evaluating work and processing/authorizing personnel actions (e.g., performance reviews, salary increases, disciplinary actions).
- Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Training, and Experience:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree; State of New Hampshire law license; member in good standing of the NH Bar Association.
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience in criminal prosecution; three (3) to five (5) years of experience in criminal prosecution preferred.
Other combinations of education and experience that qualify an individual to perform the requisite job duties and responsibilities may be considered.
