Library Clerk (Part-time)

TYPICAL DUTIES:

The Bedford Public Library seeks an enthusiastic, flexible, customer service oriented person to join our children’s circulation team. The candidate will work in the children’s circulation area and in the adult circulation area. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing children’s programs as part of a team under the guidance of the Head of Children’s Services.
  • Contributing to displays and children’s room decorations.
  • Answering the phone.
  • Checking out books.
  • Taking reserves and requests from patrons.
  • Helping patrons locate materials.
  • Shelving books and other materials.

The part-time position is for 12-15 hours per week, including 1 evening per week and weekends in rotation with opportunities to substitute for others. Tentative schedule:

Tuesday 8:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m.

Wednesday 2:45 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

Friday 8:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.

2 weekend days per month:

Saturdays 9:45 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and

Sundays 12:45 p.m.-5:00 p.m. (Sept.-May)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must have proficient computer skills, excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, possess a friendly professional demeanor and enjoy working with the children and patrons of all ages, with a commitment to great customer service.  College degree and prior library experience is preferred.
