Position Summary:
Amherst Police Department is seeking a professional, organized, and detail-oriented person to provide essential administrative and clerical support to department leadership, sworn personnel, and the department’s prosecutor. This position plays a critical role in maintaining efficient office operations, supporting court-related functions, and delivering high-quality service to the public. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support to command staff, officers, and the department prosecutor
- Assist with paralegal and case preparation support, including organizing case files, compiling reports, discovery materials, and related documentation
- Coordinate court schedules, track case status updates, and maintain prosecution calendars
- Prepare legal correspondence and court-related documents as directed
- Maintain accurate records and ensure proper filing of citations, reports, and court paperwork
- Answer phones and respond to public inquiries in person and electronically
- Prepare departmental reports and general correspondence
- Maintain records, files, and confidential information in accordance with department policy
- Process invoices, purchase orders, and assist with budget tracking
- Coordinate meetings, schedules, and department events
- Assist with records management, body worn camera program, and data entry
- Support accreditation, compliance, and reporting requirements as needed
Knowledge and Skills Desired:
- Strong organizational, clerical, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems.
- Knowledge of legal terminology and court proceedings, or ability to learn.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred
- 2+ years of administrative experience; legal, paralegal, or court experience strongly preferred
