General Summary
The Land Use Assistant provides a wide variety of administrative and technical support for the Planning and Community Development Department with a primary focus on Planning and Zoning. One of the major responsibilities of this position is providing high-quality customer service whether it is in person, on the phone, or when responding to emails.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides administrative support to the Planning Director, including coordinating tasks, meetings, inquiries, and reports.
- Attends Technical Review Committee meetings and records minutes
- Answers incoming calls and provides available information to land use related inquiries
- Assists during the review process for applications for Planning and Zoning boards, referrals to the Planning Director as needed.
- Prepares meeting packets, agenda postings, and public notices for Planning and Zoning boards
- Records notice of decisions and final plan sets at Strafford County Registry of Deeds
- Creates invoices, processes payments, tracks status of conditions of approval, files plan documents, and maintains financial records and reports for Planning (fees, escrow accounts, and bonds)
- Drafts documents, correspondence, and file maintenance.
- Manage and update Planning and Zoning web pages.
- Provides support to the Building Department as needed.
What We’re Looking For:
- Data entry, Microsoft Office, Trello, and Google Suite
- Office Administration, money handling, data management, and filing systems.
- Customer Service
- Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and utilize judgment to prioritize and work independently.
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to pass a Background Check
Starting Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour dependent upon experience
Hours: Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm
