Position Title: Highway Laborer/ Truck Driver
Location: Onsite – Town of Plaistow Department: Highway Department Terms of Employment: Full Time (35-40 hours) FLSA Status: Non - Exempt Anticipated Start Date: As Soon As Possible


JOB SUMMARY:
Duties performed will depend on the time of year and will include skilled and semi-skilled labor with heavy duty trucks and/or light duty motorized equipment. This position involves strenuous physical labor, occasional heavy lifting, and performing heavy manual work outdoors in varying weather conditions.


REPORTS TO: Highway Supervisor


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operate heavy equipment and other equipment
• Services equipment and makes minor field repairs and adjustments, reports need for major repair to supervisor and mechanics
• Performs unskilled and semi-skilled tasks involved in routine maintenance construction activities related to the highway department
• Works on a crew doing general laboring tasks and a variety of manual work in connection with road and grounds maintenance as assigned
• When not engaged in heavy equipment operation, performs various semi-skilled tasks essential to the highway department
• Knows and enforces material disposal policies associated with procedures at the Town Landfill
• Maintains effective working relationships with staff and public
• Must be available for call-back situations
• Performs other duties as assigned


LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Applicant will be subject to a criminal background check and medical examination as part of a conditional employment offer.
• Must have valid Driver’s License and dependable vehicle.
• A Class B CDL Driver’s License is required, with a DOT medical card

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work surface includes office, trucks, and off-site locations. Various outdoor surfaces, required to work in all types of weather conditions.


SUMMARY OF OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES:
• May be exposed to sunscreen and other chemicals; cleaning fluids and disinfectants, dirt, dust, herbicides, pesticides, as well as health risks associated with using light and heavy machinery.


SALARY INFORMATION: Wage range based on the current CBA wage schedule.
