Highway Crew Member, Harrisville Highway Department

Job Summary
This individual reports to the Foreman and performs a wide range of tasks to maintain the Town’s roads and drainage systems, and to maintain the Town’s equipment and Highway Department facilities as assigned.

This is a non-exempt position. Performance is evaluated on ability to meet or exceed expectations in the areas of responsibility.

Areas of responsibility

  1. Assist with road maintenance. Drive vehicles and operate equipment to perform a wide range of road maintenance projects as assigned, typically to maintain
    • Roads and road access
    • Drainage systems (culverts, catch basins, etc.)
    • Road access during seasonal and emergency conditions and situations
    • Road access by removal of snow and ice during and after storms and sanding/salting as needed
    • Road signage
    • Roadside brush and clearing trees
  2. Assist with equipment and vehicle maintenance. Maintain equipment and vehicles, which may involve welding and fabricating tasks.
  3. Other
    • Work within safe work procedures associated with assigned tasks and activity.
    • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • Training, certification, and experience that demonstrates ability to work in areas of road maintenance and construction, and heavy equipment operations and maintenance.
  • Skill and experience operating and driving heavy trucks, and construction and maintenance equipment competently and safely. Welding and fabrication skills ideal.
  • Valid NH CDL-A or B driver’s license. Class B license required at time of application.
  • Ability to see work through to a successful outcome, to work at the highest levels of honesty and integrity to serve the Town, and capacity to work under stressful or emergency conditions.
  • Available to work a schedule as assigned by the Foreman, willingness and availability to work overtime shifts as needed or required to meet deadlines and respond to emergency situations and weather conditions.
  • Capable of meeting the physical and mobility requirements of the position (lift, carry, push/pull, reach, stand, walk, crouch, crawl, climb and such). Sensory requirements include smell to detect fumes and gases, and such. Ability to withstand occupational exposures to working conditions, such as inclement weather, fuels and lubricants, landscape hazards like wasps and poison ivy, and such.
