GENERAL SUMMARY
The Town of New London Public Works Department is seeking an individual to join its team in a full-time Highway Maintenance II role. This position involves hands-on work supporting essential public works operations and helping maintain the town’s infrastructure and services.
Performs semi-skilled manual labor including road work, equipment operation, grounds maintenance, and snow removal operations. The role is primarily outdoors in all weather conditions and requires a strong level of physical stamina.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT LIMITED TO)
- Road Maintenance: Pavement patching, drainage work, tree and brush removal, striping, roadside mowing, and sign installation.
- Stormwater Management: Clearing and maintaining culverts, drains, and ditches.
- Winter Maintenance: Snow plowing, shoveling, salting, and sanding.
- Facility Maintenance: Ground mowing, seasonal cleanup, event setup, and general cleaning.
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operating and maintaining trucks, tractors, loaders, and other equipment.
- Departmental Collaboration: Assisting other Public Works divisions (solid waste, cemeteries, wastewater, facilities) and town departments as needed.
- Commitment to Safety: Adhering to all town, state, and federal safety protocols.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions.
- Working knowledge of common tools and equipment.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively, while following direction and established procedures.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION
A valid New Hampshire Commercial Driver’s License is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires considerable physical exertion.
