Fire Chief / Emergency Management Director (EMD)

The Town of New Castle, New Hampshire, is seeking an experienced, visionary, and
community-oriented professional to serve as Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director
(EMD).
New Castle is a unique coastal community committed to providing exceptional public safety
services. The Fire Chief/EMD serves as the department's chief executive officer and is
responsible for the leadership, administration, and operation of all fire, rescue, emergency
medical support, fire prevention, public education, emergency preparedness, and emergency
management activities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage all Fire Department operations and personnel.
• Provide command and oversight of fire suppression, rescue, EMS support, marine
emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and disaster response.
• Serve as the Town's Emergency Management Director and coordinate preparedness,
response, recovery, and mitigation activities.
• Develop and administer departmental operating and capital budgets.
• Oversee apparatus, equipment, facilities, and long-range capital planning.
• Direct fire prevention, code enforcement, public education, and community risk
reduction initiatives.
• Coordinate mutual aid operations and maintain strong partnerships with local, state,
and regional agencies.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, NFPA standards,
and emergency management requirements.
• Pursue and administer public safety and emergency management grants.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
• Firefighter II Certification.
• EMT-B Certification.
• ICS and NIMS Certifications.
• Valid New Hampshire Driver's License.
• Minimum ten (10) years of progressive fire service experience.
• Minimum five (5) years of supervisory, management, or command-level experience.
• Ability to serve as the Town's Emergency Management Director and coordinate
emergency preparedness and disaster response activities.
Preferred:
• Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Public
Administration, or related field.
• Fire Officer Certification.
• Emergency Management training or certification.
• Fire Inspector Certification.
• EMT-A Certification.
• ALS Certification.
• Class B CDL.
• Previous experience serving as an Emergency Management Director.
