Finance Director (Part-Time)

The Town of Rindge is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented part-time Finance Director to oversee and manage the Town’s financial operations. The Finance Director will be responsible for maintaining sound municipal financial practices, ensuring compliance with New Hampshire laws and accounting standards, and financial reporting. 

The position oversees core accounting functions including General Ledger maintenance, Accounts Payable, payroll oversight, reconciling accounts, monitoring revenues and expenditures and financial reporting. 

This position is primarily focused on accounting, financial oversight and record maintenance, while the development of the Town’s operating budget is housed under the Town Administrator. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and oversee the Town’s General Ledger and Financial accounting records.
  • Review and reconcile bank accounts, investment accounts, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and related financial functions.
  • Monitor revenues and expenditures to ensure proper accounting and compliance with approved appropriations. 
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable New Hampshire statutes and GAAP.
  • Assist in preparation and submission of required State/Federal reports.
  • Support cash management and monitor fund balances and reserve accounts.
  • Provide info to Department heads on department-specific funds.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or similar field
  • 5 or more years of progressively responsible accounting or municipal finance experience
  • Understanding of modern work environment, workflows and experience with financial software (ex. BS&A or similar)
  • Sound judgement to include working with confidential information, effective organizational capacity and an ability to operate strategically as a steward of the Town’s finance system. 

Supervision Received and Exercised:

The Finance Director will co-supervise the Bookkeeper with the Town Administrator and will work alongside the Town Treasurer. This position works under the general direction of the Town Administrator who reports to the Board of Selectmen. 

 

Schedule & Compensation:

This is a part-time role and the specific hours are subject to negotiation based on the needs and skillsets of qualified candidates. The Town is willing to accommodate a flexible schedule as well as some possibility for work-from-home for the right candidate.
