Engineering Technician II

POSITION:                Engineering Technician II

PAY RANGE:             $65,686 to $85,446, depending on qualifications.

 

DUTIES:                     

Under the general supervision of the Engineering Coordinator, the Engineering Technician II is responsible for the provision of technical and professional engineering knowledge to ensure proper design and construction throughout town-managed projects. Essential job functions include, but are not limited to, participating in construction inspections and supervision of Public Works projects; preparing contract bid documents, plans, and specifications for roadway paving and reconstruction; conducting data acquisition, input, and analysis on Town’s computer program for roadway management; facilitating construction coordination among departments and companies involved; and attending and officiating contract bid openings.  Additional duties include responding to citizen inquiries, questions, and complaints; and providing on-call assistance for emergencies.

 

REQUIREMENTS:    

Candidates for this position must have:

  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to water, sewer and roadway design and maintenance equivalent to the completion of an associate’s degree, and two to four years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Experience in the preparation of bid documents as they relate to paving projects and roadway design.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, Town staff, and outside vendors and contractors.
  • Proficiency in using AutoCad and other Microsoft Office software applications for plan and document production.
  • Skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment used in work, including but not limited to plotter, scanner, survey equipment, picks, shovels, hammers, barricades, and traffic cones.
