Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Planning & Development Director, manages, organizes, plans and coordinates the work of the Building and Code Enforcement division including plan review, building inspection, enforcement, and permit processing; provides independent and highly responsible, professional technical expertise, guidance and support to assure compliance with standards to safeguard public safety and property related to construction, design, quality of material, use, occupancy, location and maintenance of structures and performs other job related work as required.
This is a mid-management position responsible for management of sub-departmental organizational components and program functions within the Planning & Development Department as determined by the department Director. The incumbent will be responsible for developing policies and procedures. Demonstrates technical competence while working as a team member and exercises independent judgment in a number of confidential and sensitive assignments.
Ideal candidates will possess:
Bachelor of Arts in a technical field including, construction, building trades or other suitable degree; Three (3) years of experience in a municipal setting as a building inspector or code officer; International Code Council certifications in: Commercial Building Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Plumbing Plans Examiner, Residential Building Inspector, Residential Electrical Inspector. Knowledge of property maintenance code and health code.
Compensation & Benefits
Grade 9 – $48,985.40 to $80,958.85 annually
The starting salary for this position will be based on the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, and internal equity, typically within the minimum to midpoint range ($48,985.40 – $64,972.12).
