JOB OPENING

Department: Building and Code Enforcement
Position Title: Building Inspector
Status: Part Time up to 10 hours/weekly, flexible, with occasional evening meetings
Wage Scale: $28 - $42 per hour depending on experience
 

Responsible for administering and enforcing the New Hampshire State Building Code (RSA 155-A) and applicable local
ordinances. This position reviews building permit applications, conducts inspections at various stages of construction, and
ensures compliance with structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life-safety standards. The Inspector provides
technical guidance to property owners, contractors, and design professionals, helping maintain safe and compliant
development throughout the Town.
 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Review building permit applications and construction plans for compliance with state and local codes.
• Conduct inspections at key stages of construction, including foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing, insulation,
and final occupancy.
• Issue building, demolition, and occupancy permits.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, permits, and violations.
• Investigate complaints related to building code compliance.
• Prepare written reports and correspondence for the Town Administrator and Select Board.
• Provide technical assistance and guidance to homeowners, contractors, and design professionals.
• Stay current with updates to the International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), and
related standards.
• Attend training sessions and maintain required certifications.
 

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in construction or building inspection
preferred.
• Minimum of five years experience in construction, architecture, or engineering.
• Certification as a Building Inspector or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
• Thorough knowledge of the New Hampshire State Building Code (RSA 155-A) and related regulations.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
