Assistant Fire Chief

The Town of Belmont Fire Department is seeking a highly qualified and motivated fire service professional to fill an immediate opening for the position of Assistant Fire Chief. This senior leadership role serves as the second-in-command and is responsible for overseeing all divisions of the Fire Department while supporting the Fire Chief in operational, administrative, and strategic functions.
The Assistant Fire Chief provides command and/or support at major incidents and serves in a 24-hour on-call capacity. This position requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and a commitment to operational excellence and community service.
Key Responsibilities:
•Assist in the administration, leadership, and strategic direction of the department
•Manage daily operations and oversee all departmental divisions
•Provide incident command or support during emergencies and major incidents
•Support personnel management, labor relations, budgeting, and fiscal oversight
•Ensure compliance with applicable laws, codes, standards, and best practices
Minimum Qualifications:
•Eight (8) years of progressively responsible fire service experience, including five (5) years in a supervisory role
•Associate’s degree in Fire Science or related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred), or equivalent education and experience
•Certified Firefighter II (New) or Firefighter III (Old)
•Nationally Registered AEMT (Paramedic preferred)
•Fire Inspector I & II
•Hazardous Materials Operations
•Certified Fire Officer I & II
•Certified State Fire Instructor
•NIMS ICS 300 & 400
•Valid NH Driver’s License or ability to obtain (CDL-B with tanker endorsement)
•Thorough knowledge of fire service laws, codes, and emergency management operations
Compensation:
•Full-time, exempt position
•Salary DOQ with a competitive municipal benefits package
•Salary Range: $83,814.51 - $94,279.93
