The Town of York, a coastal community comprised of the villages of Cape Neddick, York Harbor, York Village and York Beach, is accepting applications for the position of Accounts Payable Specialist.
This is a highly responsible position related to the financial operations of the Town of York. This work involves regular access and exposure to information of a sensitive and confidential nature requiring the exercise of considerable judgment and independence. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Finance Director. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Accounts Payable.
- Maintain Certificates of Insurance and W-9 files.
- File 1099's annually.
- Reconcile monthly vendor statements
- Cross trains critical support functions and provides assistance, as needed, for scheduled department support staff absences as approved by the Finance Director;
- Reconcile various balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
- In depth research and analysis of accounts on a regular basis.
- Assist with annual audit preparation as it relates to Accounts Payable.
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field required. Minimum of 2 years of direct G/L accounting experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Solid knowledge of principles of accounting is needed. Preference will be given to those with fund accounting/municipal experience and audit experience.
The position is a full-time, non-exempt, union position. The starting salary is $27.79-$34.32 per hour. The Town of York follows a salary step schedule which provides an estimated 5% increase plus COLA every year for the first 3 years of employment and then every third year subsequent to that. The Town also offers a benefit package including health insurance, life insurance, two retirement plan options, a generous paid time off policy, and 13 paid holidays.
