Recreation Coordinator, Part-Time
Town of Newton, New Hampshire (population, 4,800) is seeking a passionate and qualified individual to serve as the Town’s Recreation Coordinator, a newly created position. Working under the Town Administrator and Recreation Commission, the Coordinator will develop and expand current recreation programs and facilities, establish and interpret policies, and develop short- and long-range plans. The position is responsible for youth and senior program planning and execution, management of seasonal activities, department operational tasks, and coordinating and developing services within the community. The candidate must have a flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary. The candidate also must be physically able to perform all activities related to program preparation and facilitation.
Examples of Essential Duties: (the listed examples may not include all duties found in this position.)
- Plans, develops, coordinates and implements a broad and diversified program of recreational activities and services to meet the needs of the public. Directs schedules, monitors, and evaluates programs in term of participants and budgetary, facilities, and required needs and effectiveness.
- Manages special projects and programs.
- Plans and executes events.
- Develops relationships with neighboring Recreation representatives.
- Organizes and facilitates registration of participants.
- Perform Budgetary Planning for programing.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Recruits volunteers.
- Monitors facilities conditions and requests repairs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Knowledge of the following:
- Principles and objectives of recreation administration and of activities which make up community programs.
- Facilities and equipment needed for a recreation program.
- A wide variety of recreational activities; human behavior as applied to various groups participating in recreational activities.
- Park and field maintenance.
- Working with people of all ages on a continuing basis.
- Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct recreational programs and activities.
- Ability to establish good community relations.
- Ability to develop and administer a budget and maintain records on Department’s operation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, Town Offices, civic organizations, and the public.
Skills and abilities:
CPR, AED certifications and CORI check.
