Interim Finance Director
The City of Saco, one of Maine’s fastest growing cities, seeks an experienced municipal finance professional to serve as the interim Finance Director. This position is an excellent opportunity to join a fantastic team for a multi-month assignment (March/April-September) to make a difference in an organization and city constantly seeking ways to provide quality services to a fast-growing community.
The interim Finance Director is a complex professional, administrative, and management position overseeing all of the finance functions in maintaining the fiscal systems of the City. This position will manage, control, interpret, and communicate the fiscal operations of the city to provide information and guidance to the internal city staff, City Administrator, Mayor, and City Council members.
The City of Saco is located at the mouth of the Saco River in southern Maine along the Atlantic Ocean, less than 20 minutes south of the Greater Portland Area, and less than two hours north of Boston, Massachusetts. Home to a growing population of 19k+ residents, a revitalized and repurposed mill district, world-class education system, a thriving economy, and many recreational opportunities, including fishing, hiking, biking, and kayaking, the City of Saco has plenty to offer residents, visitors, and businesses alike. With easy transportation via Interstate 95, U.S. Route 1, and as a destination stop along the Amtrak Downeaster, Saco’s residents, visitors, and labor force have easy access to and from the city. Comprised of 39 square miles, with farmland and areas of resource protection to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east -- and a picturesque and historic Main Street at its center -- Saco boasts a diverse landscape that has something to offer for everyone.
The ideal candidate would have extensive knowledge of modern governmental accounting theory, principles, and practices, as well as public finance and fiscal planning. The candidate must possess advanced Excel skills, payroll management, and advanced knowledge of the municipal ERP MUNIS. Additionally, the ideal candidate must be familiar with accounts payable functions, lien processing and collection processes, and knowledge of budgetary accounting and reporting. The position requires direct experience on a managerial or supervisory level in a directly related field.
