Employment Opportunity: Finance Director
The Town of Swanzey is seeking a skilled and strategic Finance Director to lead municipal financial operations and support the Town’s long-term fiscal health. This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring sound financial management, maintaining strong internal controls, and providing clear, data-driven guidance to Town leadership.
The Finance Director will oversee all functions of the Finance Department and serve as a key advisor on financial planning, policy, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage all Finance Department operations
- Develop and administer the Town’s annual operating and capital budgets
- Lead financial forecasting and long-range fiscal planning efforts
- Monitor revenues and expenditures to support informed decision-making
- Coordinate the annual audit and implement audit recommendations
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Oversee financial aspects of grant management and reporting
- Advise the Select Board and Town Administrator on financial strategy and policy matters
- Supervise, mentor, and support professional development of Finance staff
- Identify and implement improvements to financial systems and processes
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience; municipal finance experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated analytical ability, sound judgment, and attention to detail
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism
- Commitment to public service and collaborative problem-solving
Compensation & Benefits:
This is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in a community-focused organization and contribute to critical financial decision-making. The position offers a salary range of $100,000–$120,000, depending on qualifications, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
