Communications Specialist
The City of Lebanon is currently accepting applications for a full-time, 40 hours per week, Communications Specialist for the Lebanon Police Department. The Communication Center is 24 hours/365-day operational center. Work hours are four-10-hour shifts with days, nights, holidays, and weekend coverages to be expected. This is a Grade 7, non-affiliated position. The hourly rate of pay is $26.75 to $37.84 and is enhanced by a comprehensive, flexible spending benefits package that includes, health and dental insurance, paid vacation, sick and personal days; short-term disability; life insurance and New Hampshire Retirement System enrollment and benefits!
Position offers a shift stipend upon completion of training and bonus upon hire of $10,000 for experienced candidates, based on years of experience, and $5,000 for non-experienced candidates. (Three (3) year employment contract required)
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Position is responsible for performing skilled communication work in the operation of the Lebanon Police Department’s Communications Center. Responsibilities involve the receipt, routing and transmittal of emergency and general information via telephone, radio, computer, in person, or via other communication equipment for Police, Fire, Ambulance, Highway, State Police or any other public safety agencies.
Position deals with victims of crime, suspects involved in crimes, and other crisis situations involving hostile, emotional, mental and suicidal situations where tact and common sense must be employed. Incumbent must maintain the strictest confidentiality of all records. Position reports to the Communications Supervisor.
The Communications Center is a 24 hour a day, 365 days per year operational center. Working conditions include four-10 hour shifts with days, nights, holidays, and weekend coverages to be expected. Mandatory overtime can be expected with little notice.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
A candidate for this position should have a High School diploma or equivalent and at least one (1) year prior experience with communication systems preferred. Candidate must successfully complete a written test and oral board along with a thorough background check, including, but may not be limited to, a polygraph, drug screening test and psychological examination.
