Code Enforcement/Health Officer (Part-Time)

The Town of Milton, NH, is searching for a detail-oriented employee that has a passion for helping others, experience in the building trades or fire service, and enjoys making a difference in their community. Our team has a current opening for a part-time (20 hours/week) position of Building Inspector and Health Officer, which offers a great opportunity to start a career in public service in an excellent working environment.

Milton is a community of approximately 4,795 permanent residents (the population increases substantially with seasonal residents during the summer months). Milton is a growing community on Milton Three Ponds at the New Hampshire Maine border in northern Strafford County.

The Building Inspector and Health Officer involves ensuring compliance with building codes, working with the Fire Department to conduct life safety inspections and overseeing public health regulations. The successful candidate will report directly to the Town Administrator and play a critical role in maintaining the safety, health, and wellbeing of the community.

The starting pay range is $22.34-$30.66 depending on qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Preference will be given to those with:

· an associate or bachelor’s degree in public health, construction management, fire science, or a related field.
· 3-5 years of experience in building inspection, fire safety, public health, or a related field.
· or equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the desired knowledge, skills, or abilities.

· Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
· Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Proficiency in using different types of software.
· Knowledge of and ability to comprehend laws, codes, and other regulatory materials.
· Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with local officials, the general public, and employees.
· Ability to resolve complaints or problems.
· Ability to keep basic records of time and materials.
